Children with attention difficulties could be taken from classes as necessary and given suitable tasks - physical training, practical work, carpentry, building walls, cookery, simple electronics, whatever. But something as far as possible on a one to one level. Remember even Children who fill the university intakes are often mentioned as having to undertake remedial English courses!

This is the first and most vital point..

Next we must provide jobs/apprenticeships for youngsters. A starting point would be to open the coal mines that have been closed. Tis would also br good for the economy. Of course espensive but the jobs provided would be many and much other real industry would grow from this. It is not that youngsters without jobs are lazy. But most people be bored if asked to sit at a keyboard all day or give out endless useless papers or cut grass in parks.

Certainly also a car industry could be re-established. It might begin with refurbishing used cars and progress from there. Again mechanical and technical training would spring up from this.. And here is a little sub industry that already exists in the many garages that are all around us. If grants were made available to help those who were willing to share their skillls many youngsters who would take such training seriously and be given a valuable starting point.

Expansion not just to repair but also to develop lines in refurbished and even new specialist models would follow on.

Moving on to the stalled building industry. Here refurbishment of older properties, now standing empty would provide work. Again to say it is not that youngsters , those without jobs who are lazy. So often courses are not available -. Because not all work fits into the narrow template that educationalists accept as ‘good’. Government could provide loans to help purchase of new properties and reward banks for providing reasonable schemes to help people into their own homes.

In the private rented sector banks could be pressed to provide reasonable rates and extended repayment terms so that taking buy to let properties became viable and allowed decent profit margins to be made. Again this would provide work and experience for young people. and along with this rent to buy possibilities could be set up for those prepared to put genuine effort into getting a stake in their own homes.

I thought on the Mortgage scam - In the UK when we have a mortgage we have the notion that the house belongs to us. But note: the bank holds the deeds ‘till all mortgage payments are made – so who really owns your house?

Of course when we finally make all the payments and get our hands on the deeds then it is our house, then we will really do own the house! But for how long? We have ‘moved on’ in life a little now and we may find we have to remortgage again to pay expenses such as helping our children or even to pay for nursing care – we may find we have little time to enjoy our hard earned dwelling.

So a mortgage is simply a device to allow us to think we own the house – but in reality what we own is at first a tiny fraction, later maybe a half and later still, with much hard lobour and persistence the whole house. But beware! If you miss your payments a few times the ‘beneficial bank’ is quite ready to repossess and does not bother to grant back what you have paid before the repo takes place. It will happily sell your property to pay itself what is still outstanding and if the sale does not fetch enough your ‘beneficial bank’ will bill you again for the rest!

So why do we not rent at about half the usual mortgage payment rate and have much more free money, as they do in real Europe? ‘Because this way we can get our own house’ you may say.

But sadly this hope is often just an unfulfilled dream.

European Union are rapidly implementing new legislation which will effectively BAN FOREVER a large range of supplements.

I spoke with a friend recently about Chelation - the removal of extra metal deposits that can get lodged in our bodies, brains and many other organs. I said something about the councils obstructive ways which I won’t write here.

We all now how true this sort of unhelpful behaviour is and there is no wonder so many small businesses founder in this atmosphere. So there is little wonder at all that small businesses close and jobs are lost. How on earth can the UK prosper in this sort of atmosphere? Why do we struggle on – yet we do.

If your biz is called Sainsbury’s or Morrison’s u can take up the challenge and use legal power to get what u want. If u are just starting out it is so much more difficult.

Read this Mr Cameron and Mr Clegg and put pressure on so the councils are more helpful , Also keep the Biz Rates down, as they are until October. Scotland helps SMBs with its far seeing parliament, then we can do the same.

With great enthusiasm I put together this letter

With great enthusiasm I put together this letter - at least in mind many of my colleagues agree with this - and of course I received the usual little card to thank me for my effort!

What do you think of my sentiments - or are you one of the many who think politicians are in a club of their own who only say they care ???? Chances for ordinary people to come forward and give a hand in voluntary or even paid capacities in work with libraries , setting up schools, young peoples training and in enhancement of what is in many places is already struggling to take place are growing.

The main point being to recognise this work and to remove the negative ‘vibes’ the media seem to attach to any mistakes that are made; far better than we may try to help than to be dumbed down by over control as has been the case. I think I talk of the bigger society here and I/we of LINKtogether co-op welcome the new government. I have enclosed copies of our latest paper for your attention where I mention this .

This letter and enclosures of our paper are to make you aware that you have ‘grass roots’ support here in Leeds. We are neither Conservative, Lib Dem or Labour in alignment but our thrust is with what is good for young people and the good of the UK. The coalition seems to be the way forward, especially with your ideas to make taking a job pay and be worthwhile. I had these ideas and published them many years ago but being on a very small scale and under a government that thought it knew best with no time to listen, of course they had little impact.

We have been around now for more than 3 years at 109a and develop ideas and ‘projects’ as we go along.

All best wishes to the Coalition Government and we hope to hear back from you in good time.

Sincerely,

John Broadhead and ‘the team’ at LINKtogether, 109a Roundhay Road, Leeds

Coalition Government IS good for the UK

I looked recently at PM's question time. I detected a reduction in the jeering, booing and sarcastic remarks which have become typical of our parliamentary ssessions. I was pleased to hear the PM say ( as they discussed domestic violence),'Yes a clear message to offenders is neccessary - the last govt did make progress on this' - Here was a compliment to the efforts of the previous government. Also I detected a sense of fun in session. Very good Mr Cameron and Mr Clegg, with a more civilized discussion progress is possible.
Speaker John was shutting up the PM for repetition as he over used his popular insert 'the last lot left us with £85billion of debt'(p.); and later he admonishing the members 'you shouldn't shout at the PM in this way -it delays progress and is rude' Absolutely true and again signs of progress.
However an even greater freeing up of the ritual would be welcome. Opportunities could be available for the DPM to answer some questions; and genuinely interested membersof the public allowed to put their questions directly and easilly in an extension of this debate. Such a move would open up a truly democratic line to the man in the street and increase his interest enormously.
So our coalition can be good for the UK. It may stop party infighting, and work hard for the backing and concencsus of the people. Vital tasks face this government. Surely its first task is talk to the banks and make sure they play their financial part in in the rebuilding of our country. Otherwise, especially at SMB levels, there will be little or no profitable activity, much commerce will calapse and banks will collapse also, left without the clientel they rely on for their profits.***

Taken from LINKtogether Bulletin no 66 Autumn 2010

Much needed small biz help - only in Scotland!

LINKtogether seeks to help small businesses to start
up with our Flexible Office Space and 'START UP'
Help scheme-- and what better way to do this than
remove business rates or reduce them.
It is BRILLIANT to see that in April this year the
Scottish Government with it's Small business bonus
scheme has done this very thing! LINK has
excerpted below from www.scotland.gov.uk/sbbs

The Scottish Government's small business bonus
scheme.
'From April 1, 2009 many small businesses will pay no rates.
From April 1, 2009 tens of thousands of small businesses will pay no rates at all under the
Scottish Government's small business bonus scheme.
You could save up to almost £4,000 a year, depending on your rateable value. An eligible
business property will save on average £1400 in 2009-10.
What's the catch? There isn't one! The Scottish Government wants to help genuinely small
businesses, particularly in the current economic climate.
Who qualifies? You may qualify if you pay non-domestic rates for properties with a combined
rateable value of £15,000 or less.
The savings band for eligible BUSINESS properties rates are - % relief available
Up to £8,000 -100% £8,001 to £10,000 ---50% £10,001 to £15,000 25%

The aim of this scheme is that small Scottish businesses
may survive in these difficult times. There will be obvious
advantages to local communities in the jobs provided
and experience made available, especially for young
people. To work in a corner shop is a starting point for a youngster,
they can meet and deal with people, handle money and stock
shelves. Here is an opportunity not to be removed. It seems
strange that the Scots , apparently not noted for financial generosity,
can see into the future and help their society in this way.
Strangely our English government has not noticed this brilliant move; is Scotland so far away from England? Perhaps we can circulate this information and help them to notice what's happened. I think once this small business bonus scheme and it's advantages are made clear a similar action will be quickly taken by Westminster.
Sadly our government simply plans to set 2010 business rates based on values
obtained in 2008, so increases are very likely. As if the credit sqeeze had no effect
and jobs problems for youngsters and small businesses did not exist. Pay up or go
down seems to be the view taken. Can we ask them A.S.A.P. to look at this?

HAPPIER TIMES AHEAD!

<o:smarttagtype namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name="country-region"></o:smarttagtype><o:smarttagtype namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name="place" downloadurl="http://www.5iantlavalamp.com/"></o:smarttagtype>

Dear Reader, It is never my intention to talk the UK down – enough of the media is busy doing that already. It is simply a matter of sensibly organisation to respond correctly to the new conditions.

‘Is it worth it! As individuals we can make no difference’ some may say . At LINK we believe it is possible to improve matters. Much of the difficulty we face is set up by unbalanced and deeply negative media. Toss this depressing stuff aside and our chance is much better.

Here is a personal snapshot. My 88 year old friend at the sports centre swims every week and plays golf five times. My carpenter friend works hard and often does not demand payment till you are ready to pay; A young lady I know works hard in the day and yet still has time to bring up her three children to a very good standard. An Ice Cream man who comes around not only sell his delicious ice cream but is ready to give a little away to any ‘needy’ children. There are so many people in society who are prepared to put in a bit more. It is well worth the fight to get back to normal life with security and hope – to LOBBY FOR A GOVERNMENT ( a coalition*, a Linking together of parties?) that sees the need for better conditions for business with much lighter restrictions and a tax regime that is affordable and fair. This way we may still see the UK’s recovery and happier times ahead!

*Coalition governments exist in many countries. A coalition government might also be created in a time of national difficulty or crisis, for example during wartime, to give a government the high degree of perceived political legitimacy it desires whilst also playing a role in diminishing internal political strife, i.e. All effort applied to the countries good rather than the usual fighting and squabbling.

Business Rates Halved!

So much depends on business. Without this so many jobs will be lost AND THE UK WILL GRIND TO A HALT. I am sure I have spoken of this before but it is well worth airing again.

Government is so busy helping banks who, it seems, are mainly interested in helping themselves and not providing affordable loans to business. A huge waste of money making hard times harder.

If we focus on small and medium business this is where so many jobs exist. Yet business rates rose again this year endangering even more closures.

Recently however came a little ray of light. There was a father and son business where rates were draining the work away. The proprietor said 'can you help or my son will be on the dole' - and the rates people halved the business rates he had to pay. A sign of a sensible response, saving on benefits payments and the chance to keep up the skills of employment. So help is possible but why is this not generally known.

Let this help come out into the light and government money be used to back up this most worthy cause!

Help Businesses, Create jobs, help UK survive

<?xml:namespace prefix = o /><o:smarttagtype name="country-region" namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"></o:smarttagtype><o:smarttagtype name="place" namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" downloadurl="http://www.5iantlavalamp.com/"></o:smarttagtype>

Margaret Thatcher championed the right to buy your own house. Others in the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />US gave the same message and people were heavily influenced to get on the housing ladder at all costs. So ‘my money’ was put into ‘my house’ – the problem was it was ‘my house’ only as long as the mortgage debt was paid regularly and the banks and indirectly the government had all us home owners over a barrel, working as slaves to keep the payments up and avoid repossession.

Now, with the Crunch, this system and its pitfall is all too clear. So better lending terms are needed all round so that sensible loans may be taken and we are not a dragged down in a debt laden society.

Urgently these better terms must extend to commercial loans. For without industry at small, medium and higher levels the UK will not repay its huge loans and life in the way we now expect it will be ended.

It’s not often brought up that the huge bonus payouts made by banks to top staff and unsafe investments had a lot to do with the bankrupt condition they found themselves in even before the credit crunch. Once the payments stopped coming in regularly they quickly felt insolvent.

Another factor, perhaps the real crux of the matter, is the loss of ordinary work to the IT industry. People, even those with technical skills, are needed less and less as guided machines take their jobs. Perhaps here is the real reason for the fall of Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac in the US and the huge repercussions around the world. Many ‘sub prime’ folk just could not find jobs to cover their mortgages

----And where are these sub prime folk, only in America? Oh, don’t think the term doesn’t include the UK and you! The way things are moving only those ‘knowledge workers’ in the right place at the right time will find well paid work. How can the banks lend money to the less fortunate, those who are sub prime?

Only by offering much more flexibility to their customers and accepting much lower profits can this happen..

Simply we must deflate and survive in our own UK ‘cottage’ industries and adopt a fair and well regulated financial system. If a model on these lines can be set up and maintained, there is no reason that we cannot all live happily ever after. But I expect someone too human, greedy and cunning will attempt to mess things up again so we must all watch out!

John B

Banks also responsible for mortgage problems

Banks are responsible for mortgage repayment problems also. "

A few months ago my attention was drawn to 'Zeitgeist'. Released on the internet in 07, this three part film talks of the religious, ethical, and moral 'spirit of our age'.
To put its massage briefly we are told that God and Jesus are part of a myth started up to control people, 'an astrological hybrid'. Next, the 9/11 disaster is portrayed as a 'set up' designed to trigger the war on terror and worry people into acquiescence with the many restrictive measures taken.
Finally, part 3, shows the Money Masters, such as the Rothschilds and Rockefellers, intent on gradually gaining dominance over each and every one of us through central control of the money supply. Supporting this view are interesting revelations e.g. the American war of independence was started because the Bank of England overtaxed the colonists; and the Lusitania was sunk in May 1915, killing many American passengers, to draw the US into WW1 and into the Fed's net of exorbitant interest charges on armaments.
So the film brings a viewpoint you may not have seen before, I certainly had not. It suggests that Governments seek to control people who elect them democratically, and that high finance institutions and families who control the money supply are seeking control of not just people, but also the many national governments. Obviously this contain much truth.
However, as to the revelations on God and Jesus, while it is known that in the past the fear of God has been used to control people, to explain away God (or the Creator) as a myth is simply not backed up in our new age of understanding and enquiry.
Walk and open your eyes! SEE so many wonderful things cannot be explained. A child is born, it grows and the wonder increases. There is somehow a special energy embedded in Creation and now many endeavour to find out more about it, to tap into It and use it. This is the true spirit of our age, The creative power that brings us here and maintains us. Through caring properly for each other and our beautiful earth comes HOPE, and from this comes a sense of freedom - and with this power it is easy enough to work around any Controls set upon us.
Certainly look on Google for Zeitgeist and watch the movie. But be very quizzical of all its revelations.

SURVIVAL of small businesses

Maybe it’s a case of the blind leading the blinded. Sorry to start on a grumpy note but I remember an entry I put in LINK* on the definition of a Chancellor ' --- a head of government, or one in charge of the government purse - a responsible position filled by someone caring for the people and reasonably able to foresee the economic future’

It seems, in Westminster's ivory towers, the feeling is widespread that ALL that really matters is cunning financial management and this gives the best way forward for ‘UK plc’.

Now, looking back on the astronomic rise and now the fall of the ‘property industry’ the mistake can be seen. It is time to dispel the misnomer that manual work is somehow beneath us to do. It is often very satisfying and has an intellectual side too. Even in the case of Mortgages and loans, Business rates and council tax the time has come to discuss, argue and seek reductions in payments.

As this recession bites more deeply the situation will arise were more people have difficulty in paying their mortgages - Banks would then normally repossess and resell the houses at cheaper rates and recoup most of their money. However NOW banks will find they have many repossessed houses which they cannot sell; and, boarded up for security they will deteriorate and lose more and more value. So, forcing people out is of no advantage to people who have worked hard for their houses and of little use to banks which will pay taxes for empty and degrading properties. It seems then a much better solution for the banks to reduce interest rates, adjust terms and accept less profit – this way they may also survive.

"Ok - we did not force u to take the mortgage” they may opine when you approach them with reductions in mind. “No, of course not” you may return "but you (the bank) are a reputable institution who should have had some idea of forthcoming financial trends and certainly you could have been expected to provide sensible guidance to your customers who were simply trying to get a foothold on the housing ladder; certainly much of the blame for the situation lies in your court and you can reasonably be expected to share the pain of a difficult situation much of your own making. Is it not your usury of money put into your trust which has led to this recession?"

Often the 'seven year cycle' is talked of and ‘the property market will take off again after this’ is voiced in comforting tones. However the present money shortage in the US and Europe is of a different nature and is to do with the gradual but accelerating move in production of many essential goods away from the west and into the asian countries. To survive well in modern global trading conditions countries need strong industries and wage scales that match those of their competitors. As this need filters through into our over paid and failing industries they will continue to decline: wage levels will fall and many jobs will go. Now, then, is the time to accept lower wages and buckle down to rebuild industry and small businesses. A new framework is needed with much less government and council interference and rates and regulations reduced to sensible and easily bearable levels.
It is time to wake up barter, argue and lobby so the UK retains its position in the money wars which are always being waged.

A system that allows real financial education and decisions respecting the needs of others is required. Adopted globally such a comprehensive model will then bring sensible control over finances and help to the many needy countries.

LINKtogether - CORE FEATURES - 'Easy and Lite'

LINKtogether is about putting together a new ‘management system’. It covers much more than commerce. We say “management for business, body and soul.”

These seemingly separate pieces are really very much joined up – without business to busy our minds both the body and soul will suffer; and with a healthy body and a sense of soul we may tackle any job.
Details of this method work out as we put the system together. We aim to look out 4 others and so create a supportive and co-operative atmosphere. This way we teach ourselves to think differently, more efficiently and so we discover a new energy.

Towards this concept LINKtogether works for the good of the Small Businesses and Education in the community; also we run a properties hub, encourage action against climate change; and set up a Wellness Clinic.

We are sure you will find this system extremely useful and flexible –though not always the easy option.
We are all in this life together; Think differently, different shades, different attributes, but one people.
